Martial arts player held with 17 country made illegal arms
Ghaziabad: A martial arts player, who was member of a gang involved in manufacturing and supplying illegal weapons, on Friday was arrested with 17 country- made firearms at railway road trisection here, police said.
City Superintendent of Police Akash Tomar said several police teams were deployed here to check anti social elements.
A team intercepted a man for checking near a temple at railway road trisection.
On checking his bag, police recovered 17 country-made pistols, he said.
The accused was identified as Vicky Panchal. Panchal was associated with the gang which manufactured 'Kasmu's Katta' whose three members were arrested by the Delhi police on Monday.
Kasmuddin alias Kasmu (55), Ajay Kumar (41) and Hashim alias Sonu (19) were nabbed from near Seelampur Road following a chase, joint commissioner of police (eastern range) Ravindra Yadav, had said. Panchal was a close associate of Kumar, Tomar said.
During interrogation, Panchal told the police that he had participated in a national level martial arts competition in Mumbai where he competed with a Malaysian player, he said.
He was working as a martial arts instructor but after he lost Rs 10 lakh in a chit fund scam he started supplying country made pistols in NCR area, Tomar said.
The accused told police that till now he had supplied more than 40 pistols to different people, he said.
Police have launched an operation to arrest the illicit arms buyers in the district, the officer said, adding he has been sent to jail.
