Khelo India may upgrade the facilities in Kadapa\'s YSR Sports School

The Khelo India Centre of Excellence (KISCE) scheme is implemented by the Union ministry of sports and youth Affairs

Kadapa: Sports fans are enthused at the selection of the Dr YSR Sports School here for special treatment under the Khelo India Center of Excellence (KSIE) scheme of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). This is the only sports school selected in the state under this scheme.

The Khelo India Centre of Excellence (KISCE) scheme is implemented by the Union ministry of sports and youth Affairs. As per KISCE guidelines, the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) has identified three centers in the state for strengthening the sports facilities and submitted a letter to the SAI for setting up of state-level Khelo India centers.

The Dr YSR Sports School Kadapa, the District Sports Authority (DSA) Kakinada and the AC Subbareddy Sports Complex Nellore, were proposed for KISCE. The departmental project approval committee of SAI gave its approval for the Dr YSR Sport School.

This scheme will continue for a minimum of four years. The central government will sanction a fund of Rs.318.28 lakh per annum under recurring and non-recurring accounts.

Under this scheme, special incentives are given to youths preparing for national and international competitions. In addition to the appointment of coaches, food and other facilities are specially provided to the athletes.

The SAI released an amount of Rs. 41.83 lakhs to the YSR Sports School in the first phase, involving 25 per cent of the sanctioned amount. Also, Rs10 lakh was sanctioned for the library in YSR Sports School.

The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) vice chairman and MD B. Rama Rao sanctioned the Rs 10 lakh for library development at the YSR Sports School. He visited the sports school on Sunday.

Rama Rao visited all the departments of the sports school and the hostels of the players. He congratulated athlete Sivarama Krishna Yadav, who got both silver and gold medals in weightlifting in the Commonwealth Games. He congratulated trainer Sivasankar.

YSR sports school girl K Durga had been selected for FIFA Under-17 women world cup last year. The SAAP MD congratulated her and the football trainer. He appreciated the contributions of the sport school special officer Dr Mallireddy Ramachandra Reddy and other teachers for achieving 100 per cent results in the sport school.
