Asian Games 2018: Buoyant Heena Sidhu hopes to become third-time lucky
Mumbai: The profession of a surgeon needs one to be as precise and focused when it comes to carrying out a task. But hand Heena Sidhu a pistol and she will perform with the same accuracy as that of a qualified dentist.
On a high after her securing her first major medal in the 25m pistol event at the a Commonwealth Games 2018, the Punjab-born shooter now aims to break her gold duck at the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia, from August 18 to September 2.
The former world number one claimed silver(10m) and bronze(25m) during the 2010 and 2014 editions respectively and has high hopes of changing the colour of her medal.
"This is another opportunity to do that, improve my medal and performance. I have got two team bronze in the Asian Games, and hopefully, I will improve my performance and maybe even get the gold," the 28 year-old said to a group of journalists present at an event by Edelweiss.
Heena, married to husband-cum-coach Ronak Pandit will compete in the 10m mixed event as well in the individual 10m and 25m pistol event. Not only that, she has been practicing keeping the ISSF World Shooting Championship in mind which follows the quadrennial event.
The Indian shooters claimed nine medals in the previous edition held in Icheon with only one solitary gold coming from Jitu Rai.
“This time our performance will be much better. We are not having same teams, so athletes will be prepared and rested.
"I have seen the performance of the Indian team and overall, I believe, it will be a better performance. I have trained with them and I have seen where we went wrong last time. Overall, it will be much better as a team,” the 28-year-old added.
