International Youth Sailing Competition: 160 sailors vie at championship

Port abuzz with sailors from around the world.

Nellore: Sailors from as many as 11 countries landed at Krishnapatnam port to take part in the ninth edition of International Youth Sailing Competition of India 2017 scheduled from December 27 to December 31 2017. Krishnapatnam port is hosting the competition, which is the largest sailing competition in the country and is organised by the Navayuga Sailing Academy, Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) and Yachting Association of Andhra Pradesh (YAAP) under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India (YAI) and the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF).

The port was abuzz with sailors from different nations gathering together. Railway and Roads safety wing DGP of Telangana, Krishna Prasad inaugurated the event. Stressing that the 1000 Km coast is a blessing to Andhra Pradesh, he said he is very happy to take part in the international event. He added that Krishnapatnam port, being the country’s largest deep water port on the east-coast, is a perfect choice to hold competitions.

According to Krishnapatnam port company Ltd, CEO Anil Yendluri, more than 160 sailors from different nations have been participating in the competitions.
He said KPCL is all set to establish a sailing academy to train the youth interested in water sports. Sailors from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Sweden, UAE, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, USA, Canada and Ireland reached Krishnapatnam to participate in the competitions. Director of Ports K. Praveen Kumar, Deputy Commissioners Customs Satish and Bhaskar Rao, Tamil Nadu Sailing Academy Chairman Ashok Thakkar and district sports development officer P.V. Ramanaiah were present during the inauguration.
