As per the rules, a cricketer who applies for the position should be retired from all forms of cricket. But when it comes to Dhoni, he may have retired from International cricket but he is still playing in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings. So, he is not eligible to apply for the job.

The deadline for the applications ended on May 27 and around 3,000 applications have been received by the BCCI for the job.
Gautam Gambhir has emerged as the front-runner for the job. However, the BCCI has not issued the list of applicants.
