Kohli Creates Record, First Batter to Hit 800 Fours in IPL

Kohli now has 807 boundaries in 274 IPL matches, the most by any batter in the tournament’s history

Bengaluru: Virat Kohli scripted history by becoming the first batter in the Indian Premier League to hit 800 fours. He achieved the milestone during his 81-run knock for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Gujarat Titans on Friday.

Kohli now has 807 boundaries in 274 IPL matches, the most by any batter in the tournament’s history. He is well ahead of second-placed Shikhar Dhawan, who has 768 fours.

Kohli also became only the third batter to smash 300 sixes in IPL history, after Chris Gayle (357 sixes) and Rohit Sharma (310 sixes). Kohli now has 303 sixes to his name.

He scored 81 runs off 44 balls against GT, hitting eight boundaries and four sixes. With this knock, he also claimed the Orange Cap as the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026.

In the match, Kohli, along with Devdutt Padikkal, guided the Rajat Patidar-led side to a remarkable win, chasing down a target of 206 with seven balls to spare.

RCB faced an early setback as GT pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed opener Jacob Bethell, reducing them to 26/1 in three overs.

However, the top order responded strongly. Kohli’s 44-ball 81 set the tone, while Padikkal scored 55 off 27 balls. The pair added 115 runs in just 59 balls, keeping the chase firmly on track.

After their dismissals, the game tightened in the middle overs as Rashid Khan and Manav Suthar struck key blows, leaving RCB at 175/5 after 16 overs.

RCB then lost Patidar (8) and Jitesh Sharma (10), increasing pressure with 31 runs needed from the final four overs.

All-rounder Krunal Pandya played a crucial unbeaten knock of 23 off 12 balls, taking 15 runs from the 18th over, while Tim David chipped in with an unbeaten 10 off nine balls.

In the 19th over, Krunal sealed the win by pulling a delivery from Jason Holder for a single, as RCB reached 206/5 in 18.5 overs.

The victory earned RCB two vital points, lifting them to second place in the IPL 2026 standings with 10 points from seven matches, including five wins and two losses.
