Lionel Messi's Mansion Vandalised, Argentina President Calls For Safety

Argentina legend Lionel Messi's mansion in Ibiza, Spain was vandalised by climate change activists to highlight the responsibility of the rich for the climate crisis.

A video was released by the campaigners from the group Futuro Vegetal showing two members standing in front of the house, holding a banner that read, "Help the Planet- Eat the Rich - Abolish the Police."

In a statement, the group said they wanted to show "the responsibility of the rich for the climate crisis" by targeting the mansion which they said was an "illegal construction".

Argentina president Javier Milei has expressed solidarity with Messi and his family and asked the government of Pedro Sanchez to guarantee the safety of Argentine citizens living in the Kingdom of Spain.

"I stand in solidarity with the Messi family for this cowardly and delusional event and I ask the government of Pedro Sanchez to guarantee the safety of Argentine citizens living in the Kingdom of Spain," he said in a post on X.

He said, "In Spain, communists who want to "kill the rich and abolish the police to end climate change" vandalized a house belonging to Lionel Messi and his family."

"Communism is an ideology fostered by envy, hatred and resentment towards the successful. It has no place in the free and civilized world," he added.

Messi was not at the property when the incident took place.

The Argentina captain is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the Copa America 2024.
