Basketball action back at YMCA Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Hoopsters from the city are rejoicing as the basketball courts at YMCA, Secunderabad were reopened on Wednesday. The sport’s nerve-centre saw action back on the courts amid joy and merriment after it was announced on October 1 that they would remain closed.

Senior players from YMCA reportedly reached out to the governing body and explained the importance of basketball, as YMCA Secunderabad was synonymous with the sport, and called for an unconditional resumption of practice sessions.

Former India player B.M. Vinaysagar, who retired from railways, said “we all learnt the game here and we were able to get departmental jobs. We would like the younger generations to nurture their talent here and win laurels for the country.”

Towering former India captain Mohammed Rizwan, also a product of this court, said, “The reasons may be various but such sufferings are not acceptable. Practice sessions are of utmost importance as several players from here are aspiring for national and international glory.”

He added, “On Tuesday a delegation approached the board and stated about the importance of basketball in those courts. The board agreed and players started playing from Wednesday morning.”
