Paris Olympics 2024: Shooter Manu Bhaker Clinches India's First Medal, Strikes Bronze

Shooter Manu Bhaker clinched India's first medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. She striked bronze in Women's 10m Air Pistol final.

Manu, who hails from Haryana, has become the first woman to win a medal in shooting for India. This is India's first medal in shooting at the Olympics in 12 years. The last time Indians won the shooting medal was in London Olympics 2012, when Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar clinched bronze.
Manu clinched the bronze with a score of 221.7. Jin Ye Oh of South Korea bagged the gold with a total of 243.2 while her compatriot Kim Yeji claimed the silver with a total of 241.3.
Manu Bhaker's grandmother expressed her delight and said, "I bless her. She has done a great job. We will all welcome her once she is here. I will prepare a special food for her."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a "historic medal" in post on X. "A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!" he wrote on X.
Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini congratulated Manu for winning a bronze medal at the Olympics.
Congratulating the shooter, the Chief Minister said, "Finally the dream that the whole country was expecting from Haryana's strong daughter @realmanubhaker came true. The country's proud female shooter Manu Bhaker has shown her strength in Paris. Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal for the country in the 10 meter women's air pistol event at the Paris Olympics. Today, 22-year-old Manu Bhaker has achieved something that the whole country and the state of Haryana are proud of. Every Haryanvi's chest has swelled with pride today. Many congratulations to the strong and courageous daughter of Haryana."
