T20 World Cup: Chances of Group-A teams to qualify for Super 8
Hyderabad: With Surprises and thrill the T20 World Cup has begun on a high in the United States and all teams in Group-A have played half the matches and shift their focus on the next crucial matches.
As of now team India winning their first two matches is very likely to qualify for the next stage in the tournament, the Super 8. India will face the USA on June 12 and will face Canada on June 15, one win in the two games will secure India's berth in the Super 8.
The host nation and one of the newest members (105) of ICC, USA has surprised the cricketing world and is performing exceedingly well. It had beaten the Pakistan-side in a super over and also won against Canada in their first match. USA will face India and Ireland in their next encounters and just like India, one win will most certainly secure them a place in the Super 8.
Coming back strongly after their loss to the USA, Canada had produced a shock to Ireland and overpowered them in their second match. For the first time World Cup participants, to qualify for the next stage, they have to win in all their next encounters and hope either USA or India loses a game.
Pakistan had begun their journey on a disappointing note, the men-in-green having lost to the US in a super over, and had also faced a set-back against India, in what could have otherwise been a cake-walk. Now, Pakistan's chances to advance into the next stage in the ICC event are circumstantial. They should win both their next matches against Canada and Ireland with huge margins and hope India or USA slightly fumbles.
Ireland after opening their World Cup campaign with two losses, one against India and Canada, is almost out of the Super 8 race. It is to face Pakistan and USA in the next games.
