RMV Gurusaidutt, Sameer Verma in semifinal
Hyderabad: Indian shuttlers Sameer Verma and RMV Gurusaidutt set up a semifinal clash in the BWF Tour Super 100 tournament here on Friday.
Top seed Sameer defeated Pratul Joshi 16-21, 26-24, 21-7 in just under an hour. Guru came back from losing the first game to overcome Malaysia’s Lim Chi Wing 13-21, 22-20, 21-11 in 59 minutes.
On the doubles side, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got past Tarun Kona and Malaysia’s Lim Khim Wah 21-13, 21-10 to make the Last Four stage.
Arun George and Sanyam Shukla also made the semifinals with a 21-17, 21-15 win over Hong Kong’s Chan Tsz Kit and Yeung Shing Choi.
The top Indian mixed doubles pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy also moved into the semifinals. They battled past Hong Kong’s Yeung Ming Nok and Ng Tsz Yau 22-20, 14-21, 21-17 in 52 minutes.
The Indians will now face another Hong Kong combination of Chang Tak Ching and Ng Wing Yung.
However in women’s singles, Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli and Rasika Raje bowed out after suffering defeats in the quarterfinals. While Jia Min of Singapore ended Krishna Priya’s run with a 21-12, 21-12 win, Raje went down 19-21, 8-21 to Sim Yu Jin of Korea.
The mixed doubles pairs of S. Sunjith and K. P. Sruthi and M. R. Arjun and K. Maneesha also went out of the tournament. Second seeded men’s doubles pair of M. R. Arjun and Shlok Ramchandran and the women’s doubles pair of D. Pooja and Sanjana Santosh also failed to get past the quarterfinals.
