What Happens if Rain Washes Out India vs South Africa T20 World Cup final?
India will face South Africa in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
It would be a good competition as both the teams are unbeaten in this tournament. Like the semifinals, rain threat looms over the T20 World Cup final match on Saturday.
In the semi finals, India defeated the defending champions England and South Africa overpowered Afghanistan.
Much like semifinals, the finals between India and South Africa is expected to be effected by rain. For semis, ICC had reserved 250 minutes of added time as it did not have any reserve day.
What happens if rain washes out the final?
As per the ICC guideline for the final, 250 minutes of added time will be reserved for the match, which means a full game will happen even after a 4-hour 10-minute delay from the start time.
The match will start at 8 PM (IST) and this means a full 20-over game can start at 12:10 AM.
ICC guidelines state that the aim should be finishing the finals on the scheduled day which is Saturday.
"If play is interrupted on the scheduled day, the umpires shall use the available extra time and, if necessary, reduce the number of overs to try to achieve a result on that day," stated the ICC guideline
"In making their decisions in relation to ground, weather and light, the umpires shall aim to maximise play on the scheduled day of the match in order to achieve a result on that day, as if there was no Reserve Day available," it further stated.
The guideline also says that both the teams must have to bat for a minimum of 10 overs. If the rain interrupts the play then the match will be played on the reserve day, which is on June 30.
"Each team must have had the opportunity to bat for a minimum of ten (10) overs for a result to be achieved. If play has not resumed by the cut-off time required to allow the minimum number of overs to be bowled to achieve a result on the scheduled day, play shall be abandoned for the day and the Reserve Day shall be used to either complete or replay the match," ICC guideline stated.
