His lens, a canvas
Shiv Gandhi aka Annechira Shiva is an ace and award-winning photographer from Bengaluru who is all set to showcase his works at his maiden exhibition at Reves Art Gallery in Bengaluru from February 2 to 11. Apart from doing photography, Shiv is also an ad film maker and wildlife conservationist.
His first memory of capturing a picture was, “The very first one I have is of an elephant chasing, and I was running for my life with my camera in hand,” Shiv laughs. “Scapes of India is the first of a series of exhibitions that Shiv plans to do this year. He adds, “Leh and Ladakh which I had seen sometime ago was nothing compared to what I saw on recent trips there.
The whole environment has changed. It’s littered with plastic, the culture and diversity has changed. That’s when I decided that I wanted to do something for Mother Nature.” This very thought inspired Shiv to come out with Scapes of India. The exhibition will feature over 50 photographers taken up north till down south. Apart from landscape photography, Shiv also photographs art. On how difficult it is do his kind of photography, Shiv explains, “When in a cold place with shaky hands, no toilet facilities, no food and waiting for the perfect moment to capture the picture, it is quite hard but for me. I feel that challenge gives me pleasure.” As a norm, Shiv ended up doing engineering, though his passion remained photography. Shiv has a series of exhibition coming up. “The next exhibition will be on world heritage sites majorly of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Followed by Canvas to Camera and Culture with Water,” he concludes.
