Originality of Shashwat Sachdev’s music in Dhurandhar Parts 1 and 2 called in question

One of the big star attractions of Dhurandhar is its “music composer” Shashwat Sachdev, since a majority of the songs in the film are remixed versions of old songs. In the first part of Dhurandhar, the biggest song attraction was ‘Move Yeh Ishq Ishq’, a hyped-up hysterical remix of the old Qawwalli ‘Yeh Ishq Ishq Hai’ from the 1960 film Barsaat Ki Raat composed by the late Roshan.

The other Dhurandhar ear-pleaser was ‘Ramba ho ho’, a Bappi Lahiri chartbuster from the 1977 film Armaan. Again Shashwat Sachdev is credited for the songs in Dhurandhar 2. However ‘Rang De Lal’ is a recreated version of the song Tirchi Topiwale, whose rights are owned by the Rajiv Rai’s Trimurti Films.

Other derivative dynamos from Sachdev in Dhurandhar Part 2 include Algerian singer Khaled’s 1992 hit ‘Didi’ , Kishore Kumar’s ‘Bekasi’ composed by R D Burman and Bappi Lahiri’s ‘Tamma Tamma’.

Interestingly almost every track and its partner film is a recreation of vintage favourites. Exactly how Sachdev is being hailed as a pioneering music composer is something that needs to be explained by those hailing him as the audio messiah of the decade.

Rajiv Rai sues Dhurandhar director for copyright infringement

Trimurti Films, owned by filmmaker Rajiv Rai, has sued the Dhurandhar producers for copyright infringement. Trimurti Films on Wednesday filed a suit against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s production house B62 Studios for using the song ‘Rang De Lal’ in Dhurandhar 2 without legal authorisation.
