Filming of Coolie, the highly-anticipated collaboration between Superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj, has officially begun in Hyderabad. Sun Pictures made the announcement on Friday, and released a retro-style poster featuring Rajinikanth seated on a throne-like chair, on their X account. “Superstar-Loki Sambhavam begins! #Coolie shooting starts today,” the post declared.
A mammoth set has been constructed at Hyderabad’s Film City for the month-long first shooting schedule. Though details of the plot remain tightly under wraps, Coolie is rumoured to be an action drama centred on gold smuggling, with Rajinikanth portraying a morally ambiguous character. Although the complete cast has yet to be officially revealed, an earlier title teaser offered glimpses of Ayyappa Sharma, brother of acclaimed actor Sai Kumar. Actor Sathyaraj also confirmed his participation in an interaction with DC. Speculation is rife that actors Fahadh Faasil and Shobana will play pivotal roles in the film. Shruti Haasan, who previously collaborated with Lokesh on a music video, is also thought to be part of the cast – an impression bolstered by the fact that Lokesh had hinted at the possibility of working with Shruti on a future directorial project and that Shruti herself had shared a picture captioned “Day 1 #Coolie.”
