However, the remarkable feat was quickly clouded by controversy when live television visuals captured the RR skipper indulging in a vape inside the dressing room.
The images went viral, nationwide, showing the RR captain in poor light, about his professionalism and complete disregard for protocol. Speaking exclusively from Guwahati, Parag’s father, former Assam cricketer Parag Das, expressed his surprise at the development. “I am unaware about his habits of smoking or consuming alcohol,” he said. Das explained that he regularly speaks to his son after matches, discussing cricketing aspects such as shot selection and match proceedings, but admitted he had not yet addressed the vaping incident. “With the current news about his vaping, I am yet to speak to him,” he emphasised.
Total violation
The incident also raises questions about compliance with IPL and national regulations. Under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019, vaping is banned across India, including in public spaces. The BCCI’s code of conduct further prohibits smoking or vaping inside stadium premises, dressing rooms, and dugouts. Violations can attract disciplinary action ranging from fines to suspension, as they are deemed acts that bring the game into disrepute.
For RR, the episode comes at a delicate time. While their victory over Punjab Kings showcased resilience and tactical acumen under Parag’s leadership, the off-field controversy threatens to overshadow the team’s momentum.
