‘Chhaava’ powers on
The period drama seems set to breach the Rs 200 crore mark in its first week

Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna’s Chhaava has set the cash registers ringing, emerging as Bollywood’s first big hit of 2025.
The film passed the crucial Monday test, its collections being way higher than those of recent releases such as Skyforce, Deva and Fateh. According to industry tracker, Sacnilk, Chhaava’s domestic total rose to a staggering Rs 140.5 crore, with its worldwide figure standing at Rs 164.75 crore. Mounted on a budget of Rs 130 crores, the film is expected to make the Rs 200 crore mark in its first week.
Even though the period drama opened to mixed reviews, Vicky Kaushal’s raw and unfettered performance as Chatrapathi Sambhaji Maharaj garnered praise.
The actor doesn’t take himself for granted though. “I truly feel that whatever the tags prefixed to your name, whether it is ‘star,’ ‘superstar,’ or ‘megastar,’ you can earn them but never own them. These are given to you and can be taken away as well. My job is to keep concentrating on Chhaava, and then on my next role, and the next. Whatever comes with it, I just have to take it, because the audience is the boss,” says Vicky.
Popularly known as the ‘Girl with the Midas Touch,’ Rashmika Mandanna continues her blockbuster streak. With mega-hits such as Animal (2023), Pushpa 2 (2024) and now Chhaava, she says she is overwhelmed with the love. But she too is practical when it comes to success.
“I can't get obsessed with it. I don’t relate to fame. I just feel like it’s come to me because of the love from the audience, and I’m very grateful for it. All of us actors work for it, and I have gotten it, but I'm also that normal girl, you know, back home, who likes to live an ordinary life,” she says.
