Farhan Akhtar Puts Direction on Hold!

With Jee Le Zaraa and Don 3 stalled, actor-director concentrates on acting

Farhan Akhtar, who was and remains predominantly a director, has had little luck with his directorial ventures lately. Two of his ambitious projects, Jee Le Zaraa and Don 3, are on hold. Jee Le Zaraa needed synchronised dates from Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt. The project now needs to be recast.

As for Don 3, the world knows what happened to it. The last film Farhan directed was Don 2 in 2011.“I will make both films at some point. But right now I need to step back. So yeah, acting is my primary vocation at the moment. I am playing Pandit Ravi Shankar and going full-throttle with the prep,” he says.

Recalling how he moved into acting, Farhan says, “It was a combination of things. A friend of mine, Anand Surapur, was directing The Fakir of Venice. He was adamant that I play the lead. That was my first acting experience and I enjoyed it. Then I met Gattu — Abhishek Kapoor — and Rock On!! happened. Exploring acting through those films made me feel there was a lot of possibility to do more, which is why I subsequently did Luck By Chance, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Dil Dhadakne Do.”
