Home is where the remedy is
Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ latest wellness tip is rubbing raw garlic on her feet to reduce inflammation. “The raw garlic thing had a moment, huh?” she posts.
Dr P N Arora, general physician, lists out a few ingredient to manage inflammation.
Kitchen elements
Turmeric, for instance, contains curcumin, a compound well-documented for its ability to reduce inflammation.
Ginger contains gingerol, which helps decrease subversive responses.
Garlic, with its allicin content, and green tea, rich in polyphenols such as EGCG, also demonstrate anti-inflammatory effects.
Powerful combinations
Turmeric with black pepper can significantly improve the absorption of curcumin due to piperine in black pepper.
Ginger with lemon boost the impact while providing additional vit C benefits.
Turmeric and ginger have also been researched for their role in reducing pain and nausea, particularly in osteoarthritis and menstrual discomfort.
BACKED WITH SCIENCE
Traditional remedies have stood the test of time in treating us. Arora says that when it comes to sore muscles or generalised body pain that won’t leave you alone, you must have some hot peppers or cayenne pepper. “Mix the cayenne pepper with an oil of choice before heating it minimally in a double boiler. Cool the mixture, whisk it and transfer it to a glass jar for further usage. The super-strength cream is exactly what it sounds like and contains habanero pepper, which has a potent amount of capsaicin in it. It should be used for moderate to severe arthritis.” he says.
Not without risks
Although home remedies can work well, they do carry some risks. “Allergies can manifest themselves, causing unfavourable reactions in people unfamiliar with certain ingredients. Furthermore, natural remedies may have interactions with prescribed drugs, causing unintentional adverse reactions,” says Dr Arora adding, “Depending only on homemade treatments could also postpone seeking proper medical care for more severe conditions, potentially resulting in complications.
