Meryl Streep Represents Older Women in ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’
Ahead of the sequel’s release, the actor reflects on visibility and influence for women over 50 in cinema

Hollywood star Meryl Streep says she is happy to represent older women in leading roles ahead of the release of her upcoming film The Devil Wears Prada 2.
The 20th Century Studios film is a sequel to the 2006 hit The Devil Wears Prada and will also feature Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, who reprise their roles.
Streep, known for acclaimed performances in films like Kramer vs Kramer and Out of Africa, said women over 50 often “disappear into the woodwork”.
“I do think that there's something unusual here, because you don’t see many women in their late 70s playing parts like this,” she said. “So I’m happy to represent.”
She added that older women’s opinions are often undervalued, making such roles significant.
Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the film releases on May 1, with Miranda Priestly navigating a changing media landscape.
