‘My work makes me confident’
Shreya Chaudhry is basking in the glow of the rave reviews she is receiving for The Mehta Boys. The actress from Mumbai, who found fame with Bandish Bandits, speaks about her journey

As an actor, it’s very important to have your mental health neutral so that when you go on set, you can go and act out all emotions perfectly. There are certain things that help me — like spending time with my dog and travelling. I love traveling because it exposes you to different cultures, different people and terrain,” says shreya.
How did acting happen to you?
Acting is something I always loved doing. When I was growing up, I was not a very confident girl. But the only time I felt a sense of confidence was when I was on a stage in front of an audience — be it dramatics or debate competitions or elocution competitions in school and college. But at that time, I never thought I could make a profession out of it because it just sounded absurd. But life had other plans. When I was in college, a casting associate saw a photo of mine on social media and contacted me for a photo shoot. I enjoyed the experience so much that I decided this was something I would do professionally,
Both of your characters, be it Tamanna in Bandish Bandits, or Zara in Mehta Boys, are very confident women. Do you have any confidence hack?
My work makes me confident, because it gives me so much joy. That joy translates as confidence. Confidence comes from being well prepared, it comes from feeling happy about what you’re doing.
Did you take pointers from any real-life pop star to prepare for your role in Bandish Bandits?
Yes, during my preparations, I used to notice Nikhita Gandhi, who is voice of Tamanna in the series. I used to watch videos of different singers. I would interact with musicians, go to the studios.
What kind of music do you like?
I like a variety of music genres, but I keep going back to the music I grew up listening to. My parents are very big fans of bands like Queen and Beatles. So these are two bands that I enjoy listening to. I am also a Bollywood music lover. I love songs by Sonu Nigam, Jagjit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh
You recently shared on Instagram how Hrithik Roshan motivated you to lose weight when you were young. Share something about that phase.
I was very studious as a kid. The stress from studying used to make me eat a lot, and I eventually became overweight. The extra weight affected my back adversely. I was just 17 then. When I sought professional help, the doctor told me that I had the beginning of what we call a slip disc. It was at that time I realised I had to become fit. I had read an article where Hrithik Roshan described his fitness journey and I was highly inspired by it.
What do you eat on a cheat day?
So many things! From the top of my mind — aloo paratha and pancakes.
What do you do to de-stress?

There are certain things that help me — like spending time with my dog (who is also my child), travelling. I love traveling because it exposes you to different cultures, different people and terrain. Talking to my mother helps if I’m in a bad mood.
