Her insights highlight how design innovation is reshaping expectations. “We are also mindful of ensuring stability, so the shoe feels secure even after long hours of wear. For us, the focus is simple—if a customer can wear a wedge through an entire day or occasion comfortably, then the design has done its job,” she adds.

The renewed popularity of wedges is evident across fashion capitals, where designers are incorporating them into both casual and formal collections. Espadrille wedges, sculptural platforms, and minimalist leather designs are appearing in seasonal line-ups, reflecting the silhouette’s versatility. At the consumer level, the appeal lies in adaptability. Wedges can complement a wide range of outfits—from office wear to evening ensembles—without the discomfort often associated with high heels. This versatility is particularly relevant in an era where hybrid lifestyles demand clothing and accessories that can serve multiple purposes.

Govil notes that this shift extends beyond wedges to the entire footwear category. “The comeback of wedges is closely tied to this larger shift towards comfortable luxury,” she says. “Customers today do not want to choose between style and comfort anymore—they expect both.”

This expectation is reshaping product development across categories. “Whether it is occasion wear or everyday footwear, there is a clear demand for pieces that feel easy to wear but still look elevated,” Govil explains. “This mindset is influencing all categories—heels are becoming more wearable, flats are more cushioned, and even festive styles are expected to last for hours. Comfort is no longer an added feature; it is a given.”
