Says was ‘paid dramatically different from male co-stars’
Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently spoke about the film industry’s pay disparities. She said that she aspires to ensure fair pay for film cast members through her production company, Tralala Moving Pictures.
In an interview with Foodpharmer, the actress revealed that she has worked on productions where she was paid ‘dramatically different’ than her male co-stars. “I have been in several films where, I am not sure why, but you are paid significantly different salaries for the same number of days and role. I understand that huge films are hero-driven, with the hero attracting audiences to the theatre. I recognise that there is a distinction. However, there were films in which the role was equally demanding, and there was still a clear difference.”
She added, “I have been in the profession for 15 years, and what I am trying to do now is avoid repeating the mistakes. I will be unable to change my circumstances. But I can do something about the future. You must put your weight behind things that annoy you. I believe you will discover your purpose in the things that worry you. That has been my mantra.”
