Star Kids on Trial
Legacy opens doors. The audience decides who stays. For Bollywood’s Gen Z, the second film is where privilege ends and proof begins

Privilege doesn’t always guarantee success, as the current crop of star kids are finding out. After repeated failures, Saif Ali Khan’s children, Sara and Ibrahim, are waiting for offers. Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda got two great opportunities in The Archies and Ikkis, but his next project is uncertain.
Sridevi’s daughters are fighting for survival. Janhvi doesn’t have anything much on hand, except the Telugu biggie Peddi. Khushi is being re-launched by her producer father Boney Kapoor after two disastrous attempts.
Ananya Pandey has nothing but flops to her name, but she continues to be visible on screen largely due to Karan Johar’s patronage.
And now, Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana will face her biggest test yet — the Khan’s home production King. SRK has pulled out all the stops to make his daughter’s sophomore project a grand one. Budgeted at Rs 450 crore, King is the most expensive film produced by Red Chillies.
Though SRK plays the title role, it is Suhana who will take the lead from the marketing angle. While father and daughter will promote the film together, Suhana will take centre-stage. But will SRK’s stardom help Suhana’s consolidate her position?
Says Mahesh Bhatt, “Today’s audience is unforgiving. It doesn’t matter to them who your parents are. Maybe they went to see Alia out of curiosity. But after that, she was one her own.”
Jaya Bachchan has a different take, “You can’t write them off just because they are born to actor parents. Look at Ranbir Kapoor. Look at Alia…so many talented actors from the industry.”
