Suryakumar Yadav’s Shock Ouster
What matters in team selection at any given time is how good the player’s current form is. There are many good players waiting for a chance, so it’s only fair the best player in that season is selected

Just over three months after guiding India to a historic third T20 World Cup title, Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped from the Indian T20I squad. The move has sparked debate about the BCCI’s selection policies, especially with Shreyas Iyer reinstated as captain and Shubman Gill previously removed despite strong performances.
Is this inconsistency harming players, or is it part of a deliberate strategy to manage form and balance? We bring you exclusive inputs from key voices in Indian cricket.
The bigger picture
The BCCI’s decisions may appear harsh, but they reflect the complexities of modern cricket. With India boasting a surplus of talent, selectors are tasked with balancing form, fitness, and future planning. While fans may see injustice in Surya’s removal, insiders argue it’s part of a broader vision to keep the team dynamic and competitive.
For now, Suryakumar Yadav must regroup and rediscover his form. History suggests he thrives under pressure, and his return could be yet another chapter in his remarkable career.
Shreyas Iyer is in top form
I’ve been saying for 10 years that Shreyas Iyer is a future captain. He’s focused, confident, and has that swag which makes him a brilliant batter. I’m glad he’s finally got the reward he deserved years ago”.
“As for Surya, unfortunately, he didn’t get runs in the IPL and looked out of sorts. Even though he captained India to a World Cup win, his form wasn’t convincing. In cricket, if you’re not in form, you have to pave way for someone else. Shreyas is in top form, and he handles situations well. I’m really glad he’s the captain now”.

Team selection depends on many criteria
Suryakumar Yadav is a highly talented and experienced cricketer who has contributed significantly to Indian cricket. While his omission may be disappointing to his supporters, team selections are often based on current requirements, combinations and future plans. I believe he has the skill, character, and determination to bounce back strongly. Players of his calibre have repeatedly shown that setbacks are only temporary, and I am confident he will make the most of future opportunities.

Selectors look for best combination
I don’t think selectors are egoistic or showing their powers. Selectors always look for the best possible team and combinations. Cricket is such a game where balance is very important. With so many cricketers competing, decisions often come down to strike rates, fitness, and current form. Sometimes even very good players have to sit out. Surya was captain just months ago, but at present, selectors may feel he isn’t the best striker of the ball. Shreyas Iyer is a terrific cricketer, and giving him captaincy is a positive move. Surya will surely come back — he’s too good a player to be kept out for long".
“Shubman Gill too has done very well, but with so many openers like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad competing, it’s not easy for selectors to pick the right balance. They always try their level best.”
