Varalaxmi Sarathkumar Accused of Skipping Dubbing, Promotions

Director Sanjeev Megoti says actress failed to complete work despite Rs 1 cr payout; the actress has hit back

Tamil actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is facing allegations of non-cooperation from Police Complaint director Sanjeev Megoti, who accused her of skipping dubbing and promotional duties ahead of the film’s June 12 release.

Speaking at an event in Hyderabad, Megoti claimed Varalaxmi dubbed only the first half of the film and refused to return for the second. “She made us suffer a lot and asked us to get the rest done by someone else,” he said. The director also alleged she declined to attend promotions despite contractual obligations. He said Varalaxmi was paid Rs 75 lakh as remuneration, with her staff costs adding Rs 50,000 per day, pushing total expenditure on her to nearly Rs 1 crore.

“As per the agreement, she committed to five press meets of about 40 minutes each. Even after that, she is not supporting the film’s promotions,” Megoti said, adding that repeated requests were turned down citing her busy schedule. He contrasted her stance with others, noting Ram Charan promoted Peddi while 94-year-old filmmaker Singeetam continues to promote Sing Geetham. “Managers never miss collecting payments, but don’t respond on promotions. Actors take lakhs but won’t come for a press meet,” Megoti said, stressing that marketing support is critical.
