Amazon is set to release its next-gen AI-powered Alexa, according to a report by Reuters.
The AI-powered Alexa will be previewed at an event to be held on February 26 in New York, the report stated.
The next-gen Alexa will be the most significant upgrade since its introduction. Alexa is said to respond to multiple prompts in sequence, in contrast with the current iteration, which handles only a single request at a time.
The upcoming revamped Alexa, like other AI chatbots from OpenAI, Google, and others, carries inherent challenges, including the risk of producing fabricated responses, commonly referred to as hallucinations.
Amazon plans to release the next-gen Alexa service to a limited number of users for free, although Amazon is considering a $5 to $10 monthly fee. Amazon will reportedly continue to offer what it’s calling “Classic Alexa,” the version widely available today for free. The report also stated that the company has discontinued adding new offerings to Classic Alexa.
