Apple Watch May Feature Blood Pressure Monitoring in 2025
Apple is reportedly working on a blood pressure monitoring feature for Apple Watch, a project that has been in the works for several years.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the blood pressure feature on Apple Watch may arrive in 2025. The company previously planned to release it in 2024.
The blood pressure feature will not give users specific readings such as diastolic and systolic levels but will let the user know if their blood pressure is upwards and alert them if hypertension is detected.
Hypertension or High blood pressure is considered a silent killer as it can go undetected for a long period of time, leading to death. If it's left untreated, it increases the risk of having a heart attack, stroke, brain aneurysm, heart failure, kidney failure, clogged arteries creating blockages in the legs, and dementia. Hypertension has few symptoms until it is advanced and early detection through Apple Watch can potentially save lives.
Apple is planning to introduce this feature in Watch Ultra 3 and aims to introduce the feature in standard Apple Watches in 2025, stated the Bloomberg report.
Apple Watch already has other health features such as detecting atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat as well as it can be used to generate single-lead ECG readings.
The tech giant is also working on a noninvasive blood-glucose tracker. Earlier this year, Apple tested an app to help people with prediabetes to make changes in lifestyle as well as food intake.
