OpenAI on Thursday announced that ChatGPT no longer requires users to login to access its chatbot’s search engine.
“ChatGPT search is now available to everyone on http://chatgpt.com — no sign-up required,” said OpenAI on X.
With users no longer needing to login to access it, ChatGPT search will directly compete with tech giant Google.
OpenAI launched the search engine to ChatGPT paid users in October and was later rolled out to everyone, which includes free users in December 2024.
Now users who use the ChatGPT search without signing in will get responses from the AI chatbot based on the information from the web, including a list of sources it used.
According to a report by search engine optimization company Semrush, ChatGPT has sent more search traffic to third-party websites.
It will be interesting to see how users change their search habits with ChatGPT search being available for all.
