LG PH1 BT speaker review: Swing your mood
Unlike the conventional boring speaker available in the market, LG has tried something trendy with its round-shaped LG PH1 portable Bluetooth speaker by adding illumination for mood lighting.
LG PH1 is a small and round unit with a diameter of about 8mm. The top surface of LG PH1 is covered with a mesh grille. In the middle, the speaker bears a transparent body housed with LED lights, which helps it hide the speaker driver. The LEDs can be set to three different lighting effects: White Blinking (slow), White, Green, Red (changing) and White Blinking (with music transmission), which can be controlled manually via a Mood Lighting Key.
The bottom of the speaker is wrapped around by a rubberish padding, sporting control buttons: power, volume, Bluetooth, play/pause, call, and the Mood Lighting Key alongside a micro USB for charging and a 3.5mm AUX input. The bottom also features LED indicators for battery, mic and Bluetooth connectivity.
The LG PH1 features standard Bluetooth connectivity with Mutipoint technology, meaning it can be connected to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. It is equipped with a microphone and can be used as a Bluetooth speaker to attend phone calls as well. It is powered by a 3.7V battery and can charge completely in 3 hrs. LG says the PH 1 can achieve around 5hrs battery life on a single charge. In our test, the speaker managed to last 4 hrs on a single charge when subjected to different volume levels and music.
The speaker features a 360-degree omni-directional design, which lends itself to deliver sounds in all directions without compromising on the audio quality. Surprisingly, LG PH1 does a good job of spacing out the sound, and making it appear wide and spacious.
However, is still couldn’t top in our list of best portable Bluetooth Speaker under the Rs 5,000 price-cap. For example, there’s JBL Flip II, priced at Rs 4,309, which happens to deliver crisper audio experience, and then, there’s Xiaomi’s Mi Bluetooth speaker, for Rs 2,499, which is another good portable wireless speaker for bass lovers.
Similarly, ZOOOK’s wireless speakers, available within the same price-range, delivers a great audio punch, but are bit bulkier in comparison. While ZOOOK has value for money due to their waterproof and rugged body, LH PH1 holds a brand name, which demands a higher price, and hence is a bit on the expensive end.
LG PH1 is a great buy for those who are bored of commonly slab-like speaker, and looking out for a rather appealing portable wireless speaker. The speaker is loud, and delivers an above-average punch. The illuminating LG PH1 speaker is perfect for teenagers who occasionally like to plan small-group parties and alike. However, with a price-tag of Rs 4,490, we still advise you to keep your options open while buying the device.
