Bosch GLM 50C review: Measurement without tears
Most of us still measure lengths and heights the old fashioned way. Whether it is measuring windows for curtains or checking whether the steel almirah will fit in the space we have. These are rarely adequate for the job on hand. How, for example, will you measure ceiling height? Lasers have been used by engineers and builders but these have been pricey tools.
Not anymore. Bosch, a leader in the power tools business, has launched the GLM 50C, a professional laser measuring tool, that is simple enough to operate. It weighs just 320 grams and runs for days from two AAA batteries.
You just click the main button and point at a wall, up to 50 metres away and the bright red, white and blue display tells you the distance in metres, accurate to 1.5-3.0mm. A function button lets you select different measurements — area, volume, inclination, wall surface (useful for estimating how much paint to buy!). It is also clever enough to do rough indirect measurement if there are obstacles in the direct path. Bosch has created a mobile app to go with the GLM 50C where the measurements can be downloaded via Bluetooth and ploughed into different projects or reports.
A great tool for the handyman who will love it. And so will dummies like us, for whom the asking price of Rs 9,500 at Flipkart or Amazon might seem reasonable for such a cool home tool.
