Google Unveils its Latest AI Model Gemini 2.0
Google on Wednesday unveiled its most advanced artificial intelligence model to date, Gemini 2.0.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai calls it the most capable model built for the “new agentic era.”
“With new advances in multimodality — like native image and audio output — and native tool use, it will enable us to build new AI agents that bring us closer to our vision of a universal assistant,” Sundar Pichai said.
Google introduced Gemini 1.0 last year, which drove big advances with multimodality and long context to understand information across text, video, images, audio and code.
Gemini 2.0 is built on custom hardware like Trillium, Google’s sixth-generation TPUs and is generally available to all customers. TPUs powered 100% of Gemini 2.0 training and inference.
“If Gemini 1.0 was about organizing and understanding information, Gemini 2.0 is about making it much more useful,” Sundar Pichai said.
The Gemini 2.0 Flash experimental model will be available on desktop and mobile web to all users and it will be available in the Gemini mobile app soon.
Gemini 2.0 flash comes with new capabilities. “In addition to supporting multimodal inputs like images, video and audio, 2.0 Flash now supports multimodal output like natively generated images mixed with text and steerable text-to-speech (TTS) multilingual audio,” Google said.
The tech giant also teased a new version of Project Astra, a smartphone digital assistant like Apple's Siri that responds to images as well as verbal commands.
