How AI can promote learning in specially-abled kids

As technology continues to take over our daily lives, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to play a greater role in shaping the learning process. The advanced technology would revolutionise the traditional way of teaching, paving the way for digital methods that would make learning easier and more interesting.

“In a class, typically you teach everybody at the same time. That's traditionally the way teaching has been done. But if you have access to AI, you can get personalized learning plans with personalized indicators, outcomes, etc. So, you can learn at your own pace,” says, Reach to Teach CEO Ratna Viswanathan.
AI not only focuses on imparting theoretical knowledge or prioritizing the syllabus, as often seen in traditional teaching methods. It also encourages creative thinking, fosters problem-solving skills, and adapts to individual learning styles, allowing children to grow at their own pace while eliminating the risk of peer pressure. Additionally, it is key to evolving with the world and meeting the needs of future workplaces.
For specially-abled kids, who often find the traditional system challenging, AI can tailor the curriculum to their specific needs, ensuring they have equal opportunities to grow and succeed.
Speaking about the role of AI in promoting quality learning among disabled kids, Ratna observed, “Globally there are 240 million disabled children. For this population of children, it actually opens up a panorama of how they can learn at exactly the same pace as their peers and not feel compromised in any way.”
However, rolling out AI-based learning comes with some challenges. According to Ratna, creating a smart classroom is only the first step in integrating AI into the learning process. She stressed the need to build proper infrastructure and train teachers to support the diverse needs of all students effectively.
