Rocket League: Rocketing ahead with new updates
Following Rocket League’s launch on Xbox One and the release of a new map themed after a basketball court, Psyonix has announced more changes and enhancements coming to the game in the next few months. One of these additions is, the cross-platform play between PC and Xbox One, a feature that was available on PS4 on launch. They also announced a brand new map for the Rocket Labs playlist — a game mode which ignores the standard map design for a collection of more creative arenas.
Coming in June, Pillars will feature two massive structures that divide the map into three lanes, with goals on either side of the middle lane. Players will have to make new strategies to incorporate not only their placement in the arena, but the ability to bounce the ball off them in order to create new goal scoring opportunities. While they have not announced a particular date for season three, Psyonix has revealed the respective title rewards players will be receiving for Prospect 1, Challenger 1, Rising Star or Champion tier. The Grand Champion title will be fittingly given to the Grand Champion of Season 2.
With the end of the first year of competitive Rocket League, Psyonix will issue a full skill rating wipe for all ranked playlists. They will also take steps to limit smurfing (using an alternate account to play against lower skilled players) in the game. An unfortunate result of this is disabling Steam Family Sharing in competitive playlists. In addition to this, players that have a big difference in their skill rating will be unable to party up for ranked play. They recognise that while these steps will annoy some groups of players, they are necessary in order to improve the overall experience of competitive Rocket League.
