Microsoft launches secure Windows 10 S for students
Microsoft has revealed a simpler version of Windows 10 for the student community. Named Windows 10 S, it is a direct competition to the Chromebooks and will start from as low as Rs 12,000.
The Windows 10 S notebooks will be only eligible to run Windows Store apps. The Windows 10 S will be available for free to the compatible genuine Windows hardware owners and will ask a $150 price tag for others. Microsoft ensures that the app ecosystem in Windows 10 S is extremely safe and secure, which won’t expose children to potentially dangerous apps. Microsoft also promises top-notch performance for PCs with lower specifications.
All Web browsers in the Windows Store will run on Windows 10 S devices, but Microsoft obviously recommends Edge that now has education-focused features like tab ordering and annotations. The Windows 10 S OS will bring the benefits of the Creators Update to the Edge browser and Cortana assistant. The Office 365 suite will also be available on the Windows Store in the form of a UWP app.
Windows 10 S machines will support Intune, Microsoft's cloud-based device management system. And, you will also get Minecraft: Education Edition with a free one-year subscription as part of the package. Other administrator features include the ability to use a USB key to set up a PC in seconds with the Setup My PC wizard.
As of now, Microsoft has partnered with selected OEMs like Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Samsung, and Toshiba.
