WIFI'sical and networthy
Want to save up on the internet pack and yet not keep away from those apps, all thanks #FOMO? Here's a respite – Chaitanya Naik and Vikram BM, two young Bengalureans, conjured up YSpot, a venture that aims to offer affordable internet for users through a network of public WiFi hot spots. After recently having created a free public WiFi zone in Koramangala 5th block, in the close proximity of Jyoti Nivas College, the duo are gearing up for more. In a candid chat, they share the inside track with us…
"For most youngsters, heading back home means two things: instantly checking out those videos that our friends have shared on whatsapp or the trailer of that new movie we have been waiting for – through a residential wifi. Most of us are wary of using mobile data because it is a tad costlier for such activities. Despite the internet being an indispensable part of our lives today, most of us skimp on its usage in a bid to save up some bucks. We wanted to change," enthuses Chaitanya. Their recent venture enables users to experience seamless WiFi connectivity whenever you are at a YSpot WiFi zone and get access to free internet.
“The essence of the concept is to extremely simple for anybody to host a public WiFi hotspot and also benefit from it. This works for an IT hub like ours where even small time store owners, adults and students use internet to a large extend.”
While the tech buffs joined hands only off late, the idea was always on the cards. "This is probably my second innings at starting-up. The ability to create and control a small world inside a computer has fascinated me since childhood. I completed Masters in Information Technology from International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B) and worked as software engineer for few months before deciding to do something on my own," opines Vikram.
Despite being true-blue tech buffs, indulging in some creative downtime is always on the list. "A book and a great cup of tea take me on an imaginary voyage. So, reading is something which relaxes and recharges me to a great deal!" shares Chaitanya. For Vikram, music is the answer." I'm a music lover in its truest sense. I have been exploring the two aspects of modern music, one is music composing and sequencing using modern tools like Logic pro or FL studio.
Speaking about what’s next, Chaitanya concludes by stating, “The concept of public Wi-Fi will have its real meaning only when any individual with an internet connection is able host a public WiFi hotspot and benefit from it, be it from a mobile phone, portable hotspot devices or WiFi routers. We soon plan to have ‘YSpot WiFi zones’ in other areas such as Jayanagar, JP Nagar, BTM, Indiranagar, HSR layout and other areas in Koramangala We aim to make the process a lot more simpler, hopefully so that people bank on us when they face a net crunch!”
