Facebook to demote links of websites republishing stolen content

Facebook has updated its policy for the News Feed where links from websites promoting stolen content will be demoted.

The popular social network, Facebook has updated its policy for the News Feed where links from websites promoting stolen content will be demoted. The target for the social network is to push interesting stories to users over posts which are not relevant.

According to a report by Engadget, Facebook has updated its Artificial Intelligence (AI) system to better detect websites which scrape content or republish articles from other sources, without correct attribution or making very little changes without permission.

The social media giant explains that users will now be shown fewer posts with low-quality sites that copy and republish content from other websites without adding any unique value.

The social network’s addendum reads, “Starting today, we’re rolling out an update so users see fewer posts that link out to low-quality websites that predominantly copy and republish content from other websites without providing unique value. We are adjusting our Publisher Guidelines accordingly.”
