Killers from the shadows
The reception to The Elder Scrolls Online has been mixed since its launch but developer ZeniMax Online has been releasing steady updates and content for the game. From the PvP oriented Imperial City to the story- focused DLCs in the form of Orsinium, Thieves Guild and now the Dark Brotherhood; ESO has now turned into a robust MMO. The Dark Brotherhood expansion pack takes place in the Gold Coast in Cyrodiil.
The area was last seen in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and players can revisit the cities of Anvil and Kvatch. As the name suggests, players get to become a member of the fabled assassin group, learning how to take out targets from the shadows.
Using the Blade of Woe, they can eliminate certain enemies instantly with a brutal flurry of attacks. A brand new skill line is available that reduces the chances of getting caught while killing someone, bringing in more stealthy gameplay options for players. Other benefits include increased movement immediately following an assassination and special bonus items. In this expansion, players can take on three types of quests: Bounty, Contract Kill and Sacrament; all of which are as unimaginative as they sound.
There isn’t much new to see about Dark Brotherhood and I found most of the content lacklustre to say the least. It’s repetitive and the new skill line did not alter my personal playing style all that much. While the zone itself holds a special place for many Oblivion fans, the main story is far too short and lacking the personality found in Orsinium. Regardless, it’s an enjoyable addition that won’t necessarily change anyone’s opinion of the game. Players looking for new content for a game they have already invested hundreds of hours into would definitely be satisfied.
Dark Brotherhood is available to ESO Plus members at no extra cost or it can be purchased for 2,000 Crowns from the game’s store.
