Hyderabad: Hackers inject virus via DDOS

Attackers also launched sustained and repeated attacks against their targets.

Hyderabad: Hackers are targeting 58 per cent of IT companies across the globe to inject ransomware through DDOS attacks from IP to IP, to demand more bit-coins.

Following the issues with WannaCry, a web domain service provider and global leader on internet security, Verisign, released a report saying hackers are targeting IT sectors as it’s having more confidential data and less time on targets for projects. The Verisign’s report has also revealed that the financial sector was badly victimized in Q1 of 2017 with 28 per cent of DDOS attacks.

“In Q1-2017, the financial sector is experiencing the second highest number of DDOS attacks (28 per cent). Similarly, the media and entertainment sector was affected to the extent of 6 per cent followed by e-commerce (4 per cent), public sector (2 per cent) and telecommunications (2 per cent),” the report said.

The report said DDOS attacks remain complex and unpredictable, and vary widely in terms of volume, speed and complexity.

“To combat these attacks, it’s becoming increasingly important to constantly monitor attacks for changes in order to optimize the mitigation strategy.”

Verisign saw a 23 per cent decrease in the number of attacks in Q1 2017 compared with the previous quarter. However, the average peak attack size increased 26 per cent compared to the previous quarter.

Attackers also launched sustained and repeated attacks against their targets.
