iPhone 17 Air to be 2mm Thinner Than iPhone 16 Pro
Apple is expected to launch a thinner iPhone, speculated as the iPhone 17 Air along with iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max in 2025.
According to Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air will be 2 millimeters thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. The current iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25mm thick, and if the iPhone 17 Air is 2mm thinner, then it will be around 6.25mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone ever.
Apple launched the iPhone 16 series two months ago, and we are already getting the rumours of the upcoming iPhone 17 series, set to be launched in September 2025.
As previously rumoured, the “iPhone 17 Air” will feature a 6.6-inch display, A19 Chip, Face ID, Dynamic Island, 48MP rear camera, 24MP front camera, 8GB RAM for Apple Intelligence, No Physical SIM card tray, and single camera.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to feature Apple's 5G modem. This modem is smaller than the current ones which are supplied by Qualcomm, and it will be tightly integrated with other in-house components, requiring less space, which allows Apple to make the iPhone 17 thinner.
Apart from iPhone 17 Air, Apple will be using its modem in iPhone SE 4 and also on lower-end iPads in 2025.
Apple is also exploring the idea of bringing cellular connectivity to Macs, but it is unlikely to arrive in 2025 but can be expected in 2026, when it brings out the second-generation modem. Apart from Mac, the tech giant is planning to bring cellular connectivity to handsets, which includes the Vision Pro.
Apple looks to bring a second-generation modem dubbed “Ganymede” in 2026, and it is expected to be featured in the iPhone 18 series lineup and iPads. In 2027, Apple plans to roll out a third modem, code-named Prometheus, which the tech giant hopes to top Qualcomm in performance.
