Apple Might Debut its In-House Wi-Fi Chip With iPhone 17 Series

Analyst Kuo said that the switch to in-house Wi-Fi chips will enhance connectivity across Apple devices

Apple might introduce its in-house Wi-Fi chip with the iPhone 17 series, replacing the Broadcom chip. This follows the tech giant’s recent move to introduce its in-house 5G modem, the “C1 chip,” in the recently launched iPhone 16e, which replaced the Qualcomm chip.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming iPhone 17 series might feature Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi chips, replacing Broadcom’s chips. “Following Qualcomm, Broadcom’s Wi-Fi chips will also be replaced by Apple’s in-house chips at a faster pace. My latest industry survey indicates that all new 2H25 iPhone 17 models will feature Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi chips,” Ming-Chi Kuo said in a post on X.
Kuo said that the switch to in-house Wi-Fi chips will enhance connectivity across Apple devices apart from cost reduction.
Earlier, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans to switch to a homegrown chip for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections starting from this year. This move will replace some parts provided by Broadcom. The chip, code-named Proxima, might be introduced in certain products in 2025, as per the report.
He further stated that only the ultra-thin iPhone 17 “Air” is likely to feature Apple’s C1 modem chip, while the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max will likely use Qualcomm’s 5G modem.

Following the debut of its in-house 5G modem, Apple may bring a second-generation modem dubbed “Ganymede” in 2026 and a third modem, code-named Prometheus, in 2027. The tech giant is aiming to overtake Qualcomm’s technology by 2027, said a Bloomberg report.
