Meta Plans To Release Oakley-Branded Smart Glasses This Year: Report

Tech giant Meta will be releasing Oakley-branded smart glasses later this year, according to a Bloomberg report.

The Oakley-branded smart glasses, dubbed “Supernova 2”, are based on Sphaera glasses. The Supernova 2 will have the camera in the center of the frame rather than on the side.
The smart glasses are aimed at cyclists and other athletes. The current Ray-Ban smart Meta glasses are a bit heavy for endurance sports and also do not have polarized lenses. The report did not mention any features of the upcoming Oakley smart glasses, but it may have similar features to the current Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Oakley, a subsidiary of EssilorLuxottica, is a popular choice among athletes. A report by The Verge suggests that Oakley may resemble the discontinued Bose Frames Tempo. The Bose Frames Tempo offered open-ear audio with polarized lenses in a lightweight design.
The Bloomberg report also noted that Meta plans to release a high-end version of Ray-Ban smart glasses with a built-in display in 2025. The glasses will be capable of previewing photos and delivering notifications.
