One 5.4-inch iPhone 12, two 6.1-inch iPhone 12s and one 6.7-inch iPhone 12 incoming
For the past few years, Apple has released three new iPhones annually and this all started when the company introduced the iPhone X alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Now, if recent reports are to be believed, then Apple will shake things up a bit and launch up to five new iPhones in 2020; marking a first for the Cupertino-based smartphone brand.
As per a recent report by 9to5Mac, we can expect Apple to introduce five new iPhone devices next year with one launching in the first half. Ming-Chi Kuo, the reputed Apple analyst has shared the latest information and in his report, he claims that Apple will introduce the iPhone SE 2 in the first half and this backs up previous reports that have surfaced surrounding this device.
Speaking about the iPhone SE 2, it is expected to come with a design that’s similar to the iPhone 8 and will bear a 4.7-inch display with updated internal specifications. This move will be similar to the iPhone SE that looked like the iPhone 5S with iPhone 6S specs.
In September of 2020, Apple will release its most-awaited update and Kuo suggests that the iPhone 12 lineup will be incoming. He states that one model will come with a 5.4-inch display, two coming with a 6.1-inch screen, and one 6.7-inch device. All of these handsets will come with OLED displays and 5G connectivity. The major difference here will be the cameras on the rear.
The 5.4-inch display and the lower-end 6.1-inch iPhone 12 are said to come equipped with dual-rear cameras while the top-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhones are expected to feature triple shooters on the rear along with a Time-of-Flight 3D sensor. As far as the design goes, the iPhone 12 will look similar to the iPhone 4, which is a well-received handset in the design department.
In comparison, the 2019 iPhone 11 lineup features a 6.1-inch display on the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro comes with a 5.8-inch screen and the iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with a 6.7-inch display. The iPhone 11 features two rear cameras while the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max come with three rear sensors.
A report by CNET states, “In addition to detailing the 2020 iPhone plans, Kuo says the 2021 iPhone may ditch the Lightning port altogether on the highest-end iPhone and move to a "completely wireless experience" suggesting that the iPhone won't switch to USB-C for wired charging. “
Kuo mentions that the iPhone SE 2 Plus will feature an all-screen design but won’t use Face ID for biometric authentication. Instead, it will rely on a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that’s located on the power button. The display on this handset could be either 5.5-inches or 6.1-inches.
