As with every year, OnePlus will be sticking to its super-fast update cycle. While most brands refresh their smartphones on a yearly basis, OnePlus’ smaller line-up allows them to update their handsets every six months. In the first half of the year, OnePlus launches a vanilla number release and the second half we see a T release.
Smartphone insiders on Weibo who have supply chain contacts are confident that there will be no deviation to the OnePlus operational plan and there will be a T variant to the OnePlus 7 Pro that will launch this year. Because of the smaller turnaround, we shouldn’t expect to see any major changes to the OnePlus 7T Pro and this trend has been going on since the OnePlus 3T. Commenting on this, Forbes states, “It’s a different philosophy that sees the old handset being removed from sale (usually through stock exhaustion) in around six months. But it also means that someone buying a new OnePlus handset will know that ‘they are getting technology close to the top of the specification sheet.”
Also, by purchasing a OnePlus smartphone, you get the commitment of two years of software updates and three years of security updates. All these reasons make for a compelling reason to jump on to the OnePlus bandwagon. Another impetus for purchasing a OnePlus device is that all these software updates are passed on to older devices as well such as the Nightscape mode.
The plausible question here is what features should come with the OnePlus 7T Pro as the OnePlus 7 Pro has some killer specs that are relevant even up to this day.
Updated Processor
Assuming there won’t be a design change with the OnePlus 7T Pro, all the enhancements we want are to be under the hood. And this includes an SoC to rival other flagships that will be launched in the second half of the year. We are talking about the Snapdragon 855+ chipset that’s rumoured to make its way on to the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and already available on the ASUS ROG Phone II.
Faster RAM
A feature that will be one of the most requested is improved RAM in the form of LPDDR5. Samsung has already unveiled this memory solution and with OnePlus adding it on board the 7T Pro, it would push ahead of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 which is expected to not feature it.
Additional Charging Features
In 2019, having wireless charging on a flagship is expected and no longer a standout feature. With the OnePlus 7 Pro, the brand ditched it and here’s hoping they will finally add it on the 7T Pro. With Samsung and Apple already adding it on their flagships, this is the next logical step for OnePlus. Also, if we are wishing, then we would like the handset to come with bilateral wireless charging which would put it on par with the Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup.
