Pok©mon outdoors, all you gamers!

With a new game for smartphones recently launched, youngsters can finally get back to their fave obsession.

It is a great time for all those 90s kids who were addicted to Pokémon — the television series as well as the computer and GameBoy games! And we aren’t the only ones who loved the series with a passion!

Even celebrities like Robert Downey Jr., One Direction and songstress Jordin Sparks, have admitted that they were obsessed with the show. A few days ago, Pokémon Go, a game for the smart phone was launched and is already sending the world into a frenzy! And while the game has only been launched in America and Australia, youngsters in the city have found a way to get the game on their phones and are already hooked!

Like most phone games, it requires players to spend time with their head down while walking or commuting around to catch these Pokémon which are integrated into the real world view via the phones camera! “I walked around the airport for 45 minutes straight, with my head down, trying to catch a Zubat while people looked at me like I’m crazy. It’s not something I’m very proud of,” admits Bharat Anand, a student who is already addicted to the game.

“As long as gamers are aware of their surroundings and don’t wander off into dingy locations or traffic-congested streets, it’s all good. The app even issues a warning before the game starts,” he adds.

Young gamers from the city have already managed to get their hands on the game which uses GPS and real time, despite the game not being released in the country yet! “It took me an hour to figure out how to download the game on my phone with an Internet hack here and a fake id there, but it was successful and now I’m addicted.

Though the game sucks battery like a vampire on bloodlust and you need constant Internet as having Wi-Fi is no point, because the game requires us to move around. I live very close to Ulsoor, so I have already caught some very rare water as well as grass Pokémon!” says an excited Soumya Talukadar.

It is indeed a great time for the Pokémon family, who used to watch the show on television as well as played it for long hours on their GameBoy’s. “I found a Charmander in my backyard and a Magicarp while I was cooking!” says Chris Mendonca.

“But it’s quite a smart way to get people off their butts and exercise more. Usually, I game indoors but after downloading the game, I walked around my in neighbourhood for 20 minutes to catch Pokémon and visit Pokestops and gyms,” says the 23 year old gaming addict. Atleast, it gets the youngsters outside, which is great!
