Huawei's Android Oreo Go phone in works

The Y5 Lite is expected to hit the market in May and offer an optimised version of Android.

Google’s Android Go program is off to an eventful start, with major brands such as Nokia and ZTE embracing the platform to offer interesting options for dirt cheap prices. The latest one to join the bandwagon seems to be China’s Huawei, whose Android Go offering could break cover pretty soon.

Leaks from XDA had unveiled initially that Huawei could be working on a budget smartphone going by the name of Y5 Lite. The handset is supposed to be built around a MediaTek MT6737 quad-core chipset accompanied by 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. Now, latest information from GizChina suggests that Huawei could be launching it pretty soon, possibly in May. The smartphone is expected to priced below $100.

The Android Go series of smartphones are meant to cater to the budget smartphone seeker looking for a fairly optimised Android experience. Android Oreo Go is promised to occupy lesser space on low-end devices and utilise resources efficiently to provide an optimum user experience. While Huawei’s low and midrange smartphones don’t make it to the Indian shores, there’s a high chance that Huawei’s e-brand — Honor, could be bringing a rebadged version of the device for an affordable price tag, something to tackle HMD Global’s Nokia 1. However, all of these are speculations and therefore, you should take it with a pinch of salt.
