In keeping up with launching affordable devices aimed at the mass market, Lenovo-owned Motorola has unveiled its first Android Go smartphone — the Moto E5 Play Android Go edition. The device is based on the Moto E5 Play but will sell for a much lower price due to downgraded specifications. The smartphone will be available for sale in Europe at Euro 109 (approx. Rs 8,700)
As the name suggests, the E5 Play Android Go edition runs on stock version of Android Oreo Go 8.1. Android Go edition devices aim to offer fast performance along with more storage space — thanks to reduced app sizes. The device will come preloaded with Google’s Go version of Android apps, although users will be able to install the full-blown version of the same.
The device is built around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset paired along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Compared to standard E5 Play, the Go Edition gets a bigger 5.3-inch 18:9 LCD display. There’s also a fingerprint reader placed on the back, along with an 8MP primary camera and 5MP front one. Both have LED flash.
The E5 Play is backed by a 2100mAh battery. The device is expected to ship in Black, Dark Lake and Flash Gray colours. Motorola hasn’t announced any plans to bring it to the Indian market, but expect it to be positioned against the Nokia 1 Android Go edition when it gets launched.
