Apple could slow down iPhone XR, XS with iOS 13.1
iOS 13 went live for almost all devices and soon another update, iOS 13.1 is expected to arrive for the iPhones. The new 13.1 update will bring a CPU throttling feature on the iPhone XR and XS.
Apple had run into controversies earlier when it admitted that it throttled CPUs on older iPhone in 2017. The company faced backlash for ‘slowing down’ older iPhones to force people to buy the newer ones, while Apple insisted this was done to compensate with the older batteries on iPhones that had been used for a while.
Apple later added a toggle in their updates so that users could choose whether to keep the feature turned on or off. The feature now turns itself on only when a weak battery is detected but users can still choose to turn it back off.
The newer 2019 iPhones are reportedly shipped with a more advanced performance management feature that will not be impacted as much by the feature.
