New Apple leak will make existing iPhone owners jump with joy
In the last few days, there has been a plethora of rumours surrounding the highly-anticipated iPhone 12 line-up and now, the latest bit of information surrounds the operating system that will support it. As per a report by iPhonesoft, a French-based Apple-dedicated new website, the next major version of iOS will be supported on all devices that are capable of running iOS 13. And in addition, two models of the iPad will miss the update to iPadOS 14.
Apple has always updated the list of devices that are compatible with iOS and in the process, they remove older handsets. They reduce the number of devices that the company will support and as was the case last year, Apple axed the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus as well as the iPod sixth-generation when it released iOS 13.
With WWDC 2020 looming on the horizon, we expect Apple to officially preview iOS 14 as well as iPadOS 14 and with it, we should see the possibility of device compatibility changes. Now, a dubious report has claimed that iOS 14 will be compatible on all the same devices as iOS 13 and it will but naturally include the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone SE2.
iOS 14 supported devices
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 11
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone SE
- iPod touch (7th generation)
Like last year’s OS, the iPhone SE is also included on the list with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus missing the cut. iPhonesoft claims that devices running on the A9 chipset will be supported; however, Apple may opt to leave out the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus as well as the iPhone SE.
As far as the tablets go, the devices that iPadOS will support is almost as extensive as what iOS 13 supported; however, Apple is said to drop support for the iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2.
iPadOS 14 supported devices:
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2016 and 2017)
- 10.5-inch iPad Pro
- 9.7-inch iPad Pro
- 11-inch iPad Pro (2018)
- iPad Air 3
- iPad 7
- iPad 6
- iPad 5
- iPad Mini 5
As of now, this report should be taken as a rumour and nothing definite since iPhonesoft doesn’t have the best track record. Last year, the website claimed that the iPhone SE wouldn’t make it to iOS 13; but we all know how that turned out.
