Apple's cheapest iPad gains stylus support, powerful chipset

Apple has released its new refreshed iPad with its pencil stylus at the education-focused event in Chicago.

Apple at the education-focused event in Chicago has unveiled its new refreshed 9.7-inch iPad with its Apple Pencil. As this event is based on the education firm, the company is offering its new refreshed iPad for schools at $229, and $329 for the consumers.

In support with the Apple Pencil, the newly refreshed iPad includes Touch ID, an HD FaceTime camera, 10 hours of battery life, an 8MP rear camera, LTE option, and Apple’s A10 Fusion chip. The included stylus, however, doesn’t ship with the iPad but needs to be purchased separately. The gains of the new hardware update are claimed to boost AR performance in various apps aimed at students and educators.

Apple’s vice president of product marketing, Greg Joswiak, has acknowledged that there are 200,000 apps made for education and that Apple’s most popular iPad is the 9.7-inch model.

This new addition of affordable iPad to its existing product line-up is primarily targeted against the Google’s Chromebook products. Since they are much cheaper and student-friendly, Apple is trying to enter into that flea by offering this new affordable iPad to the students.

Apple is also boosting its free iCloud offering from 5GB to 200GB for students, making it way more affordable to use Apple’s service to backup iPads and use Apple’s photo services.

The good news is that Apple hasn't changed the prices for the new model. The new iPad 9.7-inch still starts at Rs 28,000 in India for the base 32GB+Wi-Fi variant. The iPad 9.7-inch is available in four variants — 32GB+Wi-Fi, 32GB+ Wi-Fi+LTE, 128GB+Wi-Fi and 128GB+Wi-Fi+LTE.
